Thinks You Should Know if You're Considering an iPad

By Richard Allen

The iPad has become a hot commodity moreso than any other gadget in recent years. Although a lot of people have purchased them there are still some skeptics out there.

With this device you don't need to have headphones to listen to music or watch videos. However you may prefer to use headphones for privacy reasons. The built in speakers allow you to share sound bites with friends which is convenient.

The long battery life is one of the most impressive features about the new iPad. This is no small accomplishment in a world where we have to be constantly recharging our devices, from phones to iPods to laptops. You can generally use your iPad for as many as 10 hours before it needs to be recharged, leaving you with the better part of a day of uptime. Some users report even longer timeframes (by one or two hours). In the end, you can be confident that you have more than an hour or so of usage without worrying about your battery life. You can also buy an accessory that works to extend the battery. Computer game fans will adore the gaming capacity of the iPad. The high quality images of the iPad screen can make 3D games look great, which is one advantage. People who are serious about gaming have one major problem with the iPad and that is that the interface isn't as easy to use as a computer keyboard, mouse, or wheel is. At least one new accessory is coming out, called iCade, that will enable you to connect your iPad to a more complete gaming environment, resembling an arcade. Until that moment though gamers will have some gaming capabilities but not enough to really make hard core gamers happy.

The most common complaint about the iPad is that it doesn't come equipped with a camera. Because so many people have complained about this oversight there is wide speculation that the next model will in fact offer a camera feature. If you're serious about photos on your iPad there is a cable you can purchase that will connect your digital camera to your iPad. So even though you can't take pictures with your iPad, it's not very hard to download them from your camera.

As we've seen, the iPad is a versatile gadget that can do many things, but whether you think it's something you can really use depends on your needs. While less expensive than most laptops, it's not a cheap device, but it does provide you with a new type of interface and a way to enjoy lots of content and applications using your finger or a stylus. Now that you have the tools the decision is up to you.
