How To Choose A Tablet Computer

By Michael Raja

Agree with it or not there are close to 100 makers making tablets today, and they are not all called Apple. There are many things to think about if you're in the marketplace for a tablet. Here are the some points to consider when getting your glossy new toy. If you are planning to get a tablet P.C for your office, there may be other factors to take into consideration also , such as connectivity and security. Check with your IT support person.

Screen width

Tablets sometimes come in either 7 inch or 10 in. form factors. Some people prefer the book like quality of the 7 inch tablets, and there are others who like the larger magazine feel of the 10 inch tablets. This is about portability too , as 7 inch ones are way easier to slip into your bag than the 10 in. ones.

Processor and RAM

Now these things aren't visible, and with so many manufacturers making tablets, the ones that make lower end ones aren't so enthusiastic to share on the internals of their tablet. Typically you ought to be looking for something with a processor speed of 1GHz, and 512MB of RAM. The cause of this is simple: The processor makes everything go quick, and the RAM makes everything run smooth. Top end tablets from the like of Apple and Samsung have twin core processors and 1GB of RAM.

Durability

Simply because tablets are made from plastic does not imply they need to be fragile. High quality plastics do exist and if you find the tablet that you're interested in squeaks and creeks, do not buy it. There is no excuse for poor build quality, regardless of what the price point is. The screen is also a big concern. Some manufacturers use Gorilla Glass, which is hardened glass. Excellent for slinging in your backpack and not stressing about anything.
