Manage Your Web Site Links With Link Checker

By Frank Hayes

Link Checker is a useful tool for checking the status of web site links. It manages the links and handles your bookmarks too. The checker tool finds the new URL and changes the address on the dead or broken links. At the same time, it fixes missing names, descriptions, meta tags and keywords.

When you run the validation process, you will get a list of links that need attention. Links that are dead with the 404 status are shown with red icons. 301 or 302 errors are shown with yellow icons to mark links that have moved to new domains. The validation process also produces a list of pages that have been changed a lot in content or moved since the last run. These are shown underlined. You do not need to run a bookmark validation checker to completion. It is possible to stop the validation check when you please, save it to file and resume the run later.

Link Checker handles bookmarks by integrating the link manager feature with the most popular browsers. Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Opera are all compatible with the link management tool. You can find bookmarks speedily by searching with keywords. It is possible to search two different databases as the same time. Wild cards and the AND operator combined produce broad search results. The use of quotation marks, OR, and the AND NOT produce more refined search results. Restrict searches to specified folders and directories for even quicker results.

You can manage your bookmarks by exporting them, printing them out and even password protecting them. Bookmarks can be exported in different formats. You can even create a template in XML or HTML to export them. If you are able to write basic script, you have an even wider choice in export formats.

It is possible to work on two different databases and with different passwords. You could put a password on one of the databases and not on the other. The unprotected database allows public access.

The print function can be formatted for font and margin settings and which fields to include or exclude. First select the database or run the search to produce the required results then select the print options from the preview window.

Link Checker has some even more refined options. For color blind users there is an option to change the icon settings. For pages that change very frequently, just opt to exclude them from the validation run.
