The Good And Bad Aspects Of Windows And Linux Systems

By Robert J. Thomas

There is not one single answer to the question as to whether Windows or Linux is a better operating system. It just depends you ask. As with most choices, you have to decide for yourself which would suit you better. There is a lot of information on Windows, but not as much on Linux. It really depends where you look but it is out there. In the following paragraphs, you will read about Linux and Windows operating systems - hopefully this will help you make a choice.

Since Windows programs have such limited compatibility to other systems, people are not sure about using Linux, but this can be overcome easily, according to their users. Windows programs can be run while using Linux, because there is an emulator program that can be used. Unless the computer has Windows installed on them, then most of the time these programs will not run nearly as fast. If you are trying to run other devices, like flash drives, digital cameras, or printers, they may end up having compatibility issues, also.

If you want to use Linux, you will need to learn all about it, otherwise your Windows programs won't be able to run, unless someone who can do it for you. You might need to put of with the inconveniences of the compatibility problems and spend some time learning, but there are many advantages of using Linux. The primary consensus with most people when they find out about Linux is that it cannot compare to Windows at all. This operating system is actually very popular and many applications can be executed and used with this seemingly obscure operating system. Though you may believe that you are limited because you cannot run Microsoft programs, this is not the case.

If you have any need to do networking, it's often a lot easier to set up using Linux than Windows. Although many people have a Windows operating system, few know about its networking capabilities. This is because they are hard to not only hard to find but also difficult to operate.

Obviously, though, this is not an advantage that is obvious to those who are buying new computers that come with their operating systems already installed. If you want to save money, you can always buy a computer that doesn't cost as much that doesn't come with Windows and then download Linux cost free.

The Windows operating system is known for crashing. Linux, on the other hand, hardly ever crashes and is able to shut down and reboot much more quickly. The Linux OS is also much more efficient, specifically in the area of memory usage. Your speed and performance will improve dramatically. Although Linux is not as well known, if you are trying to escape Windows, you might want to give this OS to try and see how it works. Lots of different factors need to be considered when you are selecting your operating system. Deciding between Linux and Windows depends on whether you want the flexibility that Linux can offer you or the extended compatibility that is offered through Windows for the different software programs. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of why you should select either Windows or Linux for your computer.
