The Way To Create A 2 Tone Picture By Using Adobe Elements

By David Peters

Photoshop Elementsis one of the best consumer-driven application which support easy-to-use features to produce a 10-on-10 perfect picture. This program has given great boost to an artist to create and experiment with various features to carve a larger than life image. Its user friendly features have made challenging tasks like correcting a blemished photograph, changing the back ground, enhancing the resolution of the picture and now creating 2 different tones in one single image, a child's play. Bringing forth its new feature of making two tones in just one image, the software permits access to all possible experiments to make your photograph perfect.

The strategy of making two tones in one picture involves the conversion of a colored photograph into black&white with a special sepia effect. This effect enhances the appeal of your picture by making it a classic look. To transform your photograph into a two toned black and white picture, follow the below tips:

First and foremost method of modifying the tone of your coloured image to black&white is by using the easy-to-access hue and saturation layer method. This technique totally de-saturates all of the livid colours in your photo and transforms it into a colorless black and white photograph. Now, after getting the desired photo, it is recommended to make a duplicate background and name it accordingly. Next, you have to separate the shadows and highlights from your photograph. To do this, go to the layers pallet and click on "create new fill" to choose "Threshold". Selecting 'Threshold' will transform your photograph into black and white. You will discover that an adjustment slider has also opened up. Now on the slider, keep changing your photograph until you are pleased with the separation of black&white quotient in the image.

Now, you have to create around two hue and saturation layers. These will be two images, one being the inverse of the first one. Then click the 'magic wand' tool to check if the tolerance is 100%. Now select the entire white part on the photograph by hitting any white portion in your picture. You can mix this white colour a bit for better effects by choosing the option, "Feather" and converting its radius to 15 pixels.

Now when you select the option, "create a new fill", you will observe that a new layer opens up containing the mask which absolutely resembles your photograph. Then, save this new layer by clicking 'OK" and rename this new layer as Highlights.

Choose the option, "magic wand" for the last time and this time clicking on the black colored area in the photo. You may feather selection once again to build another saturation layer. Just click 'Ok' and save this new layer as 'shadows'.

As the previous step, click the 'Threshold' layer to turn it off, to open the adjustment layer labeled, 'Highlights'. Choose the color box and change its hues until you're happy. Correct the saturation too. Repeat the same steps for Shadow layer as well. You will meet the desired outcomes.
