Urbanears Plattan Review - Great Pair Of Earphones

By Sandi Ednilao

It's become fairly apparent over the final couple of years that headphones are not just about sound any longer. These days they're also about style and portability. One of the newest businesses leading the charge in fashionable headphones is Urbanears, a business from Scandinavia that shows a lot of promise. Urbanears Plattan have quickly become their most popular (and greatest) model to date

But are they any great?

This Urbanears Plattan review will cover a number of important details including style, sound, portability, and functions.

The Style

There is no question that the Plattan is a stylish headphone. It features a somewhat classic look with padded on-ear earcups, a fabric cord that minimizes tangles, and a matte finish. There are 14 various colors spanning almost the whole color spectrum. The only color that's truly missing is orange. I'm not sure why. Personally I went with brown and they look fantastic. The Plattan is definitely larger than your typical 1980's style on ear headphone, but it is by no indicates overly flashy or bulky. It looks good and fits nicely.

The Sound

The sound on Urbanears' Plattan is extremely great. Particularly considering the cost range. While the earcups are regarded as on-ear, they cover my ears nearly entirely, for an experience of total immersion. As far as I know, they're not advertised as noise canceling or decreasing, but they definitely act that way. I can hardly (if at all) hear somebody speaking when these headphones are on, even when that individual is right in front of me.

Portability / Durability

Urbanears Plattan are certainly everyday, on-the-go headphones that travel nicely. The band is good and flexible, and the earcups fold in into a compact little package. There is no carrying case, but personally I do not require or want one. I haven't had the Plattan's long enough to really judge durability, but they definitely seem like they will final a while. The design is easy, so there aren't a lot of connections that will break, and the supplies look like they are able to certainly deal with their share of put on and tear without a problem.

The Functions

For a moderately priced pair of headphones, the Urbanears have a lot of cool functions. The compact folding design is definite plus, because it makes the headphones both portable and capable of fitting any size head. The cord is fabric which keeps it remarkably tangle free, a really welcome improvement more than other headphones and earbuds I've had in the past. It also features a remote/microphone that is compatible with most devices such as iPhone, Droid, Nokia, Blackberry, HTC, and other people.

Maybe the coolest and most original function is what they refer to because the "Zound Plug" that is an extra jack on one of the earcups that lets you (or rather somebody else) plug an additional pair of headphones into yours so you are able to listen towards the same music simultaneously. Such a easy idea, but one that certainly sets the Urbanears Plattan apart from other headphones. Overall, I'm a large fan of Urbanears Plattan. They make for a fantastic pair of everyday, on-the-go headphones that look good, sound good, and travel nicely. With the bonus features like the Zound Plug and remote, I'm definitely going to appreciate and get fantastic use out of them.
