The 5 Best iOS Apps For New Your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

By Fausto Mendez

iOS features a fantastic app store that's populated with some pretty useful and/or fun programs. We all know it's complicated for newby iOS users to jump into a foreign smartphone/tablet ecosystem and even some experienced users could have stopped listening to the numerous new apps debuting each day. That's the reason why we've compiled the list below of our five favourite apps. Our criteria for judgment include usability, fun, creativeness and inspiration, and we haven't included programs that ship with the OS itself. Now, let's get going.

1. Up first, Waze is meant to replace your smartphone's default navigation and/or maps app, and it's also available for Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile and other gizmos. Unlike Apple's Maps app, Waze features turn-by-turn navigation with audible directions. The interface is beautiful and intuitive, and it's pretty easy to use. We prefer Waze over other third-party solutions because it's free, and the app crowdsources traffic and cop-location information to help Waze drivers avoid delays, wasted time and boredom.

2. Next, AirDrive adds flash-drive functionality to your iOS device over Wi-Fi. Our only criticism is that the settings of some wireless routers will need be adjusted to permit the app to work, and it does not work over USB in eventualities when the router does not support AirDrive out of the box. Still, it's a great app, and it beats all other options. Plus, it works with any Mac, PC or Linux machine, and it doesn't work thru iTunes like other programs.

3. PXL is another great app for photo editing. Unlike any other photo editors, this one is rather unique and isn't superb for many situations. Still, the pictures you can make with this app are wonderful, and they are rather beautiful even if you don't actually know what you're doing. For a buck, it's worth a spot in your iPhone if you enjoy creative photo modifying programmes.

4. The Animoog software synthesizer features the stellar Moog sound within the confines of your iPad. The sound is quality is high quality, and we wouldn't be confounded to hear it in professional albums. It's a lot of fun, and you can make some rather unique music with it. It does not record in the app itself. But hook it up to your Mac's Logic Pro or Garage Band app, and you're good to go.

5. Ultimately, Air Video streams nearly any video file to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Try it with an Apple Television, and you can stream that HD video to your HDTV. For less-affluent, movie and Television buffs, this app is a necessary tool in your armory.
