Why are you hunting for the best motherboard? Ask yourself this question next time you're looking to build a gaming computer. Everyone who is building a computer wants to have the best parts in their system, but I believe that folk often don't question why they are looking out for the best parts.
Frequently folks will say 'I want the best motherboard ' but then get a motherboard which is sub-standard because it is cheaper than the other choices. I'll tell you this, the best motherboard isn't going to be the cheapest. The old axiom 'you get what you pay for ' is pretty much true when it comes to computer hardware. This is thanks to the fact that there is so much competition that prices are reasonable, regardless of whether they sometimes don't appear so.
The best motherboard is of course going to be the one which works nicely for you, has all the on board options you are looking for, and which never fails. The final part of that equation is the one which is the hardest. If you buy an inexpensive motherboard then likelihood is that you are going to run into issues with the motherboard failing. Granted, you may have a superbly fine experience with an inexpensive brand motherboard, but that isn't the point.
If you need the best motherboard you need to consider the manufacturer above all else. There are only three manufacturers I might get a motherboard from right now - those are Asus, Gigabyte, and ASRock. Of these 3, I actually favor Asus - this is thanks to the fact that Asus has a long standing reputation for building top quality PC parts.
The Asus motherboards also roughly score higher than any other motherboards - yes, sometimes Gigabyte and ASRock can top Asus, and have sometimes been selected by industry leaders as 'the best ' - but in my experience of building, I look for reliability above everything else, then performance, and no one tops these points to consider for the best motherboard better than Asus.
