A Treat For My Ears: Sony Mdr-Xd200 - Kids Headphones Review

By Ryan Hall

They play fine all throughout the day so they are full charged each morning. When you take the headphones off, you must press the ON button on the base unit, and then press the power button on the headphones before they will work.

I am usually watching TV at night in the dark so it is my particular circumstance that causes this inconvenience. If the adjustment knobs stood out they would rub against my pillow and that would be a disadvantage, so I will accept this issue.

I listen to classical music mostly (90%) along with a bit of rock music and others (10%). To me, it took about 20 hours of listening to break in. I am not an audio geek by any means, so this review is for the normal everyday person that would like a pair of quality wireless headphones to watch TV. There is no static or hum that comes through these headphones, and I repeat none!

Don't get me wrong, the RS 190s are great if you're primary interested in listening to music but if you're looking for home theater quality sound for movies or games, then look no further. The RS 180 are prefect for that purpose.

While all genres sounded better than I have ever heard on a headphone, I found orchestra music to benefit the most from these. Male sure to check your/source.

The only thing I did not like so much about this product is that when you use it for a long period of time, around 30-45 minutes, your ears sweat and get desperate warm. Ordered 2 and received very timely. Playing video games for example, the menus were soft and subtle, and the actual game music explodes with vivacity. It's easy to strain your ears by underestimating how neutral they can be. Thanks to Kleer's uncompressed audio transmission technology another journey began via listening to some of my favorite Blue-rays like Oliver Stones "The Doors". The bass sounds are outstanding and precise. The only "real" problem I've run into so far has to do with the charging time. They're supposed to be fully charged after 18 or 20 hours if I remember correctly. If your source is turned up enough, you can fine-tune the volume on the back of the headphones with your right hand. Navigate around it with your right thumb as soon as you begin to use them and you'll be quickly acquainted. So I bought these because the RF headset that I normally use was starting to break down physically. I had used it for years with no real problem.

One other complaint, both the base unit and the headphones automatically shut off when the headphones are being recharged. Then both must be turned back on to use the headphones. I started off with a SACD (Super Audio CD) sampler from Concord Jazz (Volume 2). Track 2 of this disc is one that I am quite familiar with as I also have the complete SACD where this song came from. They worked really well, but were definitely lacking in sound quality, and had a handful of other shortcomings. I decided to spend more.
