More Ways To Use The Web To Find Free Kids Activities

By Chris Kiriapolous

It may seem like your child is always bouncing from one thing to another, leaving a trail of toys behind them that covers the floor as the day progresses. It's nice to have the family at home, but the day-to-day work of keeping the house clean, the family fed, and the bills paid goes on as usual. What can you do to keep the kids in line and amused without emptying your wallet?

Your Internet connection is the key to unlock the treasure trove of the world's collective ideas. People love sharing their creativity, and there are a huge number of websites offering puzzles and projects and games for kids for free. No matter what your kids are interested in, you'll likely be able to find something fun for them that's easy and inexpensive.

Kids' instructional videos:

Websites such as Instructables and DIYNetwork.com have given people a platform to share whatever brilliant ideas they have for creating things using easily accessed materials. If your child is a visual learner, having a video to follow when attempting a new art technique, a craft project or a science experiment may make it easier and more fun for them. If you've got a supply of art materials ready for them, they are bound to find something that they'll be excited about that's manageable with what you've got.

Free puzzles:

The fun and challenge of solving a jigsaw puzzle can now be enjoyed on your computer. Flash and Java jigsaw puzzles are easy to find, and unlike their cardboard cousins, many online puzzles allow you to the difficulty level to suit your skills.

One difference between the real thing and the digital version is that the pieces in a physical jigsaw puzzle don't come with the pieces already right-side up and top-side up. Some online puzzles involve rotating the pieces, but on the whole, the pieces in virtual puzzles require less work to organize and align, which makes them easier. On the other hand, it may be more difficult for some to focus on a computer screen compared to the real thing.

Online kids games for free:

If they've got lots of energy to burn, it may be your best bet to get them to channel their drive into a something that can test their skills and focus their attention. There are thousands of kids games free to play online that are as fun and addictive as a console game that costs hundreds of dollars. If you've ever found yourself playing computer Solitaire again and again, you know that sometimes the simplest games can be the most fun.

It's unlikely that your child will always be in the mood to make some brilliant work of art, so when they want to play a game to entertain themselves, you can try to instill in your child a sense of self-improvement. Encourage them to beat their high scores, or play with them to show them how fun it can be to push to do better when you do things. If they're going to get into that top school, they'll need to be able to push themselves to achieve. For now, they can spend their days before they have to go back to school enjoying countless of inexpensive or free activities, crafts and games for kids waiting to be found online.
