Great Overall - Rf Wireless Headphones Review

By Samantha Bennett

They look great. They are a sleek charcoal/black and the charging cradle looks very cool and saves a little bit of desk space instead of having to lay down a giant pair of headphones like I used to.

The room in many cases is dark due to the fact that I am watching TV and my wife has gone to bed. The range of transmission is great no problems working and walking around the house. So imagine my surprise when they arrived working as advertised and even very comfortably fitting my head. All the parts that touch your head are soft and velvety. The headphones presented a very wide soundstage with ample presence but not too much "air". As I stated above these are very warm sounding headphones. The batteries last about the rated 24 hours before requiring a recharge. You do get about a half hour of warning that the batteries are getting close to being discharged.

I can't vouch for the range though; I have little reason to prance around with these. But as for upstairs and downstairs in the same house, no worries with these headphones. The only thing I did not like so much about this product is that when you use it for a long period of time, around 30-45 minutes, your ears sweat and get desperate warm. Ordered 2 and received very timely. These headphones were meant to be multi-purpose: music, primarily classical, New Age, contemporary (a wide range), as well as TV. There is nowhere I can go in my home where I can make it drop out, or even produce any noise/static, including down my driveway to my mailbox. Only the volume and balance controls took me a little while to get used to; sometimes I would accidentally turn off the phones rather than adjust the volume. Previous reviewers have remarked on the slight delay in sound transmission; I'll say it is about one-tenth to one-fifth of a second.

This feels like a silly oversight from the design team! I would easily recommend these and would buy them again in a heartbeat! In my discussion with the Sennheiser rep, I pointed out this reviewer's comment about this and the rep said to just turn down the TV. After I said that wasn't an option, he then stated that the 180's won't behave any different than the 130's. I listen to classical music mostly (90%) along with a bit of rock music and others (10%). To me, it took about 20 hours of listening to break in.

There are a lot of controls that take some getting used to, but once you learn where the controls are it's easy to adjust the volume, etc. These are over the ear, open style with velour pads which makes for very comfortable listening. These are open phones and provide absolutely no isolation from ambient noise. If you want sound isolation, consider the Sennheiser RS 170 closed wireless phones; also sold on Amazon.

The control buttons are too difficult to adjust while they are on your head. You need to be able to easily identify which button is which with feel so make them more distinctive in feel and spatial separation.
