Knowing Dedicated Server

By Horacio Maleszka

The virtual dedicated server is a private kind of server which can have one main computer to be serving the several others. The servers can run independently without having to depend too much on the main server computer. One main server can manipulate the entire system if this is the kind of server hosting being used. The servers can be manipulated and rebooted.

This server hosting is not new and has been already used ages ago by the computers of the olden times. The difference is that this time, there have been many improvements and innovations being made to the system alone as compared before. The services of shared web hosting and dedicated server hosting can be bridged with the presence of virtual server hosting. Virtual server hosting has many advantages and the biggest perhaps is that it is cheap compared to dedicated server.

The virtual server hosting always make it a point that the clients will have total control over their system while the hosting will have a copy of the entire system. Therefore, this would mean that the virtual server hosting lets you be in control of the things you will be installing. There may be software which may not be in harmony with the virtual system. Such examples include firewalls, virtualizers, antivirus, and firewalls. There are companies which provide the virtual hosting complete set of services so that the client will not be installing anymore of the firewalls, antivirus, and other software which can be possibly installed.

There are clients who have chosen to virtualize their operating system. Actually, the change is only operated by only one machine. Also, it usually has a limited processor time, space of disk, and RAM. Honeypots is the term usually made to employ these servers. There will be running of the machine for a purpose because of these honey pots. This will also not let other servers be affected with their systems. You can have a lot of honey pots if you know how to set up these virtual private servers.

Here are the questions which you must ask when you will look for a company in virtual server hosting. You can choose when you are already sure of your decision.

Can you identify the specifications of the host server including is RAM, network, and CPU?

When running the server, how many possible servers can it handle?

How is the resource contention being handled? This means that what will possibly happen if the other servers on the host server are all running the processes in CPU/RAM-intensive?

Can you point out if there is any minimum or least possible amount of usage which the network, CPU and RAM can have? How much would that be?
