Figuring Out Which Portable Scanner is Best for You

By Deborah Smiles

Before you buy a portable scanner, you have to take a look at what is offered available on the market. However, what you need has to be taken into consideration.

After you identify a few models, take some time to review them and narrow down what fits you needs. Make sure the digital scanner will be compatible with your operating system. It won't matter how good the portable scanner happens to be if you can't use it with what you already have in place. Almost all of the digital scanners out there will be compatible, but make certain before you buy. Customer service for that scanner maker is also a resource you should use.

Find out what the software is that the digital scanner uses. Ideally, you want to buy a scanner with software that's easy to use. Evaluate the kinds of tools that come with the portable scanner. It is to your best interests to get a simple to use portable scanner. You don't want the scanning process to become long and drawn out.

Find out exactly what the speed is for the portable scanner. When it comes to resolution, you want a model that has low numbers. To give you more flexibility, only obtain a digital scanner that offers black and white as well as colour. The higher the resolution you use, the slower the production speed you will get. The supply of your power will influence speed. An AC adapter is going to get you more speed than you can expect from a USB cable.

You should look for a lightweight model so that you can easily take with you. It should be simple to move and many of them are lightweight plus durable. Try to find one that comes with a case for carrying and for storing.

How much you plan to spend is also important to look at. There are some terrific values offered, so you don't need to buy the most expensive one to get a great portable scanner. If you don't need many features, one of the lower priced models will be fine. You won't always get more value though going with the higher end product. Look at models that are moderately priced and you'll typically find the best value offered.

Don't buy a scanner if it doesn't give you a good warranty period. This could range from 1 year to about Five years. Find out what is covered on that warranty as well. Make sure the characteristics you want to use with a portable scanner can be found in the model you select.

Being knowledgeable allows you to get a portable scanner which works for you and that is affordable. When you choose a good model, you'll use it often and get a great return on that investment.
