RIM's BlackBerry Service Interruption Affected Millions Of Users

By Baron Scott

RIM's Blackberry service failure has been several days, millions of users in the world are still affected. On Monday RIM's BlackBerry service interrupted, affecting the whole of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. The affected users can not get access to the Internet and can not use the IM and e-mail and other Internet services.

RIM said on Tuesday, BlackBerry service has returned to normal, but then it said that the affected areas have expanded from the Middle East (http://www.textiles-leather.com/stick_on_wall_tile-manufacturers.html) and India to Argentina, Brazil and Chile. RIM said that BlackBerry's information and the Internet Browsing Service delay mainly due to the exchange errors of RIM's infrastructure, resulting in generating large amounts of data. They are aware of these data and are restoring the normal service.

The service interruption is RIM's most serious after the fault in North America two years ago, which is in coincided with the occasion that Apple just released iPhone 4S. Japan's Nomura Holdings' specialist Richard Windsor said: "It was worse. The failure occurred at a time that is very outdated."

The analyst also said that the event may cause some companies (http://www.textiles-leather.com/products/transportation-c32000000.html) allow employees to use their devices to get access to the corporate networks, rather than providing a BlackBerry phone for each employee. Currently, many companies have allowed employees use their own devices to get access to corporate networks, particularly using Apple's iPhone.

As the market share declines and the quarterly results are not satisfactory, many institutional shareholders including Canada's commercial bank Jaguar Financial have asked RIM to sell or carry out a major restructuring.

Britain's leading entrepreneur Alan Sugar said: "In my career in IT, I have never seen such a large scale of service disruptions. I do not understand why it needs such a long time to repair."

RIM today announced that BlackBerry's service level in Europe, Middle East, India and Africa has increased dramatically. The majority of services in North America and Latin America are running well. Although there are still some delays and the levels of service in different places are still different. Rim's global team will continue to work to restore integrity and consistent service in all areas as soon as possible.
