Notebook Computer Memory - Tips About Upgrading Your Laptop

By Margaret Burgess

Laptop computers may be increasing in numbers, but upgrading or implementing notebook computer memory is still not so straight forward.

When choosing from different types of memory, remember to choose one that is compatible with your notebook computer. When handling memory, you need to be careful because it's a little delicate.

How to Add Computer Memory It's important to turn off the Notebook and make sure it's disconnected from any exterior power supply. If lights are still visible, double check for any live power sources before continuing.

You don't have to take apart a Notebook computer just to add memory. To access the memory slots, there's a panel that's usually located at bottom of the laptop. When you've located the panel, you can open it using a screwdriver and view the existing memory. You can also do this to check the exact type of memory your Notebook uses because the front of the memory strips is visible when you open the memory panel.

Small clips are used to lock in the memory strips on the end of the strips. You can gently pull the memory strips from their holding place once you've flipped the clips. To add a new memory and there is space available, you can hold the new memory in place by pushing it until it's fully seated in the slots and then close the clips.

Replace the access panel and screw it back into place once you're done replacing or adding your Notebook computer memory.

To ensure that the memory has been read by the Notebook, power it up and have a look. It should count the memory and inform you about its access once the PC starts up.

Repeat the whole procedure and carefully check if the memory is seated properly in the Notebook if you encounter any problems.
