Ever since the release of the iPhone 4, and afterwards, the 4S, Apple fans have puzzled and speculated about the next generation iPhone. Many iPhone 5 news reports say that we may see it on the shelves in summer 2012. The bigger question in everybody's mind however , is what features we'll see on it.
From Form Factor to 4G
It's long been theorized that a bigger screen was planned for the iPhone 5, though the concept was met with strong opposition from no less than Steven Jobs himself. The late Apple CEO seemingly didn't approve of the larger screen as it would fragment the iPhone line. Many are convinced that Apple will still push through with a bigger 4-inch screen in the new gen though, to follow what their competitors have for a while been doing.
2 features are also widely rumoured on the iPhone 5: quad core and 4G LTE technologies. Many surmise that since its competitors are moving towards those 2 technologies, it's only logical for Apple to do the same. iPhone 5 news also state that since the 4S has a dual-core ARM processor, we'll possibly see a quad core chip on the subsequent gen handset, doubtless an Apple A6. As for mobile connectivity, though many of its rivals are making LTE handsets (most notably, Samsung), it is often said that Apple has been saving 4G for the iPhone 5.
As you can expect, these rumours have been met with mixed reactions, but though this might be the case, its release is still generally forecasted.
Release Date
O.K, so you have seen just how busy the rumour factory has been about the iPhone 5 and you may expect it to resume being this way until we see the handset on the shelves. In the opinion of some iPhone 5 news sites, the handset will probably hit the market in mid to late 2012. This is based upon Apple's previous releases; actually many expect the iPhone 5 to be shown at Apple's WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference).
At any rate, we'll keep our eyes peeled for more news and rumors about this upcoming handset. Meanwhile, be absolutely sure to take these tidbits with a touch of suspicion. We'll see the iPhone 5 and what it can do when Apple's prepared to share.
