For decades the designers that make web sites have been trying to figure out ways to improve the look and feel of their web sites. Lets take a look at the way things have improved in the last twenty years, and also take a look at where they are going.

This gave rise to browser based internet games and social chatting programs.
In early two thousand one a format known as CSS started to become increasingly popular. While it had been available in the past, most web designers were intimidated by its complexity. The benefits are what set it aside from the rest though. CSS separates website design elements from the content, which importantly means that there would be a more obvious visual distinction between the graphic aspects of a website and its actual content.
The need for decreased file size also became increasingly important. Designers were beginning to make sites that required a user to access the site possibly several times an hour, this was another contributing factor to the success of CSS. CSS works on a cache system, allowing the computer to store the web site after visiting it for the first time. The faster a site can be viewed, the more times it can be viewed.
Social web pages that allowed users to communicate by the web site began to take hold at this point. Users were logging in several times an hour to check for new friends and send electronic mail.
