The Sony MDR-XB500 headphones are created to provide unbelievable bass levels in the limits of a conventional headphone. The headphones utilize 40mm dome drivers to give a response of extra-wide frequency with the levels of the bass reduced to 4Hz. The straight vibe structure guarantees high levels of audio fidelity and the acoustic design that is sealed gives high levels of noise isolation.
The Sony MDR-XB500 design is 100% hip-hop and clearly aimed straight at young customers who likely drive vehicles full of giant subwoofers and amps. The ear cups are simply huge. The pads are almost 2" thick and are nearly 4" in diameter. It must be confessed though that they are very comfortable, and if you are not concerned with the weird looks you will receive while you have them on, then you could wear them for days without being tired of them.
Additionally, the pads are extremely comfortable, although throughout extended listening they will get warm. The headphones are manufactured from plastic, though this is nothing special, they feel sufficiently sturdy. Sony is printed on both sides of the headband at the point where is can be adjusted. Beneath this, the side indicator and model number are provided on the cups.
The Sony MDR-XB500 is not overly attractive with its plastic structure however it feels durable nonetheless. The comfort given by the large pleather pads is wonderful and the Sony MDR-XB500 is not heavy on the head though it still feels safe. For the same $50 that the Sony MDR-XB500 can be purchased for, I have not come across any other full-sized headphone that has similar comfort. The quality of the Sony MDR-XB500 is above standard. The ear-cups are created to rest on the ears as opposed to over them, however they are still able to seal properly and suppress a considerable amount of noise from outside. The pads for the ears are manufactured of black leatherette that is smooth and that are remarkably well padded. It was noticed that the padding permitted the headphones to apply a good amount of clamping force minus being uncomfortable.
The Sony MDR-XB500 headphone does precisely what it guarantees. It offers incredible bass performance in a fashionable well constructed item. If you happen to be a bass head then the Sony MDR-XB500 is going to be a wish becoming reality.
