Factors That Make TFT LCD Displays Better Than CRT Displays

By Alex Stein

In the past CRT displays had dominated the market, unlike in present day whereby the TFT LCD displays have taken over the market by storm. This has brought about low economical value for CRTs such that it is even possible to get them at no cost now. The numerous differences between these two display types have resulted in one option being dominant. The TFT LCD option has dominated due to the following differences.

CRT is the abbreviation of cathode ray tube. This monitor is quite bulky, heavy and vulnerable to physical disturbance like vibration or shock. The CRT monitors are referred to as light tubes. This is because they usually direct the electron beam on a phosphorous layer row-by-row and dot by dot.

Initially, there were no restriction or limits on how long you should stay glued to your computer. However, the CRT display has changed the fact this is because, it has lead to emergence of health risk issues. This is because when you are working on a computer the electron beam that draws the image may affect your body fitness.

Technology has kept on advancing by day and gave rise to the liquid crystal monitor or film transistor commonly known as LCD or TFT monitor in short. The layer gives way or prevents light from going through altering its crystal structure to translucent or opaque. They address individual pixels, sub-pixels and sports on in a tight nut shell.

The following features allow the TFT monitor to dominate the market over its predecessor. This monitor's LCD layer helps it controlling the light that goes through which greatly affects the color presentation, power consumption, picture quality and durability. The CRT monitor on the hand has a high power consumption, poor color presentation and limited durability. This is because of the cathode ray tube, which is an old technology.

Another benefit is the fact that the LCD monitor is compact and that saves up on space used up in the office or the study room. The CRT monitor is very bulky because of the cathode tube. Additionally, the CRT is heavy which makes it hard to transport and therefore not readily portable. Unlike its counterpart, the new displays are light and therefore easily portable hence simpler to transport.

The next benefit is that the modern display uses transistors. This is very important because they can be changed to increase the performance of the system. In addition, it keeps the monitor up to date with the current emergence of numerous applications. Hence, they can adapt with the new market evolutions.

With these new PC displays, there is a lot of demand and competition in the market, which tends to make them cheaper. This in turn makes people turn to using them because they are cheap and provide quality services. That is, the prices become achievable and reasonable for even the most casual PC user.

The final point is that TFT LCD displays are usually healthy to any user. Cathode ray tube monitors are usually harmful to human health, because they produce harmful light. The LCDs have a light control device known as liquid crystal display layer. What more is that they are usually resistant to both pressure and vibration hence making them more durable than their competitor is.
