Having a home that is properly and fully insulated does have many benefits for the homeowner and also the environment. Most people do take the necessary steps to insulate the roof but may not realize the importance of doing some other areas of the home. Here we will look at some simple basement insulation methods which can be very beneficial.

Nowadays insulating the home is something that is becoming more important to many people. It gives the homeowner the opportunity to save money as well help to reduce the impact on the environment by using less energy. There are few effective techniques that do not require an expert to carry out.

As most cellar walls are made from concrete it is important to use the right method to correctly insulate it. Concrete does tend to withhold a lot of moisture and air and will absorb all the heat generated within the room. Many people tend to fit wood framed walls on top of the concrete in their efforts to insulate the room. While this does have a certain stylish effect there could be an issue with mold later on caused by trapped moisture.

An effective method would be to use spray foam. This foam is easy to apply to the walls and is ideal for lock out moisture on surfaces such as concrete. This is one of the more expensive methods but is worth the higher costs because of its effectiveness. It can be used to cover exposed pipes and fill holes at the same time being very good at keeping heat in and moisture out.

One technique that is slightly cheaper than spray foam but just as effective involves the use of foam boards. These are mostly sold in DIY stores where there are many varieties of different quality available. The quality of effectiveness of these boards can be judged by their R rating which they will all have been given. This is one of the more commonly used basement insulation methods.

When compared with the spray foam technique, foam boards are little more difficult to install. They will just need a little extra care and effort to ensure that it is done correctly. You may need to cut and shape them so that they fit the walls correctly. Both the above mentioned techniques would be effective at insulating rooms that have problems with heavy moisture.

Hybrid Systems is a cheaper option for insulating your cellar. This has a mixture of fiber glass and foam and is mainly suited for locations where there is not much of a moisture issue.

It is important to make sure that you choose the correct basement insulation methods for your particular situation. Although the initial cost of making the home may seem quite costly you will need to consider the long term savings that will be gained from this as well as the fact that you will be doing your bit for the environment.
