Smartphones - What's all this Commotion About?

By Nick Motari

You have got to have been hiding somewhere not to understand about Smartphones today. They are publicized all over the place and its quite likely you know what these are, you just might know them by a different name. Smartphones are just cellphones that have some computer-like features.

Oh you have heard about them! You have seen them too no doubt. Stuffed with email capacities, Net access, address books and much more. The cell phones (also called cellphones) have certainly changed a lot since they first came on the scene. But don't mix up these newer toys with the sandbox devices.

The sandbox devices come with tools pre-loaded that include calculators, notepads and calendars. What makes the Smartphones different is the proven fact that the users can download and install a range of programs to them and they essentially turn into lightweight personal computers for the users to enjoy. This and being able to edit what content is on them is why the phones are smart.

You could recognise some of the brands, due to their popularity like Windows CE, Nokia, PalmSource and Blackberry just to name a few. Today though, the rage for these cellular phones has extended to the off-brand ones. It is complicated today to find a cellular telephone which does not include at least some of the smart technology.

The facility to have so much info at our fingertips is so fantastic that many programmers have climbed on board to form unique applications specially-designed for these tiny devices.

The result is many games, GPA systems, databases, tiny encyclopedias and even weather programs on these mobile phones and you need no mouse to access them, just a tap of your thumb. Mini keyboards are also available for the fans of text messaging or the poor guy who never gets to leave his office. You might just have an entire Microsoft Office suite running on the screen about the size of a matchbook.

And to ice the cake, you can shield your Smartphone just like your computer thanks to programs that remove spyware and undesired virus that might cause threat to your Smartphone.

Is this simply a trend? This fact is really doubtful. The consumer demand for these devices ranges from the pre-teen socialite to professionals to the very complex crowd. The product is sold to all demographics and because of the lower costs today dye to stiff market competition, there also appears to be no boundaries economically. They can also be bought online on websites that relate to buy online computers.

For example, according to Wikipedia, of the 1 billion camera phones that were shipped in the year of 2008, the Smartphone percentage with full email capabilities represented around 10% for the market which added up to around about 100 million phones.

But what truly makes the Smartphone so popular? A Smartphone as mentioned earlier gives you not simply the ability to carry your data with you whereever you go, but also you're able to edit the information at any point or place.

Today's generation is so reality based that you're not the only one that was to capture the instant to relive it again and again. You also need to share these memories with others. These Smartphones are good for letting you express yourself on the spur of the moment with very entertaining outcomes.

Trying to attempt this with a heavier portable or desktop computer is not always convenient. Even with the smallest of the peripherals such as digicams, digital cameras and more you don't get the same results as with the Smartphone. You can carry around these kinds of phones and communicate, create, edit and record which fits into today's need for doing more and doing the whole thing faster!
