Best Website Host: The Most Important Question

By Ian Tate

The most important question when you are looking for the best website host is something that many people do not take into account at all in their choice of a web host. You should inquire about technical support.

It's very confusing to compare different packages offered by the many website hosts you find on line. If you consider among shared, reseller, VPS or dedicated, how do you even know what will be good for you? This is the big question that most people spend all of their time on. They try to compare packages depending on what they are offered.

But the truth is that with most web hosting companies this is not so important because upgrading is such a simple matter. If you just sign up for a package that offers you what you need and maybe a little more, you can upgrade at a later time by sending an e-mail to the web host support desk. They normally love for customers to ask for upgrades, and they are willing to help you move your sites to a different server if you are moving away from shared hosting.

So the package should not be an issue. The next thing most people worry about is cost. OK, this can be important, but is it really going to make a huge difference to you whether you are paying $7.95 or $9.95 per month for shared hosting? Surely, you buy stuff you don't really need every month. You probably waste way more than $2 on things you don't need.

So, if all you are worried about is the two extra dollars spent on web hosting, you should consider also those extras you could save on. You can almost certainly afford it. Receiving good technical support is definitely worth a few of your dollars.

Technical support is one of the most important things you can receive when you try to select a website host, because it can save you time and money. You would be wasting hours of your time trying to solve something that could possibly be fixed by technical support in just a few minutes.

If your website is a commercial one, you could lose money while your site is down or not working properly. When something like that happens, you need someone to jump in and fix the problem in a timely manner, not someone asking you more questions.

So, is there a way to find out about the quality of a company's technical support before you sign up with them? In many cases, you don't. Most people sign up on the basis of cost and what is in the package, without even considering support.

You can often get good feedback on a company's support team if you look at web hosting forums on line. Bear in mind, however, that the people on the forum have their own personal opinions, and their needs might be different than yours.

In a sense, you are always taking a chance when you join a hosting company. Because of this, long contracts are best avoided. Start out on a monthly plan even if it is more expensive. And if you are still satisfied in six months, you can always get in touch with support and ask them to switch you to a yearly plan. This way you will be able to find the best website host for your needs.
