Many people consider the Call of Duty series to be one of the most successful yet annoying first person shooters out there, and Modern Warfare 3 is no exception. There are often many an occasion where players will do everything from shout profanities at the screen, to throw their game disk or controller at their TV to swear never to play the game again as they are killed in a manner which, to them, defies all logic and understanding. This is all needless, however, as these players will often have approached the game in the wrong manner.
Among the many things to be considered are the guns themselves; some are effective at close quarters, whereas others are better at greater distances and suit picking other players off from across the map.
As an example of the huge difference using the correct and wrong equipment can make, if a player is in an area infested with hostiles, using a Portable Radar can help a player to track down and get the jump on said enemies, racking up the kills, whereas a Tactical Insertion will more than likely cost a player an extra death should they get killed, as enemies will more often wait near a Tactical Insertion and pounce on the unfortunate victim upon their respawn before they can react.
The different gametypes vary hugely, and carrying the right setup will make the difference between being legendary and being a liability. As an example of this, Scavenger Pro is pretty much redundant on Search and Destroy as it is very unlikely that a player will exhaust the standard ammunition supply on just six enemy combatants, and it is also unlikely that a single player will have to eliminate them all.
When a player achieves a measure of success and earns one or more Pointstreaks, picking the right ones to suit can be a major difference maker. Using aerial pointstreaks, such as the Reaper, on maps with a lot of buildings is ineffective and the effort would be better spent earning a ground-based streak like the Assault Drone, which can be driven into buildings. Even more vital is picking pointstreaks a player can achieve; it's no good picking the AC130 when there's no chance of getting a 12 point streak without dying.
So in conclusion, you will need to know a lot before you can become an effective combatant in the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer arena.
