As far as I know, the Guild Wars 2 was first announced inside March of 2007. It is now a new game. The Guild Wars 2 is the sequel for the Guild Wars. The Guild Wars was released in 2005. The game is welcomed by a big group of people. Then the developer decided to create a sequel to the Guild Wars. According to the president of ArenaNet, The Guild Wars 2 will be released in 2012.
You should choose profession you want to learn and then you will find the NPC to learn the profession. Once you have learned the profession, you will have to practice the profession in the game world. You should equip your character with good weapons and then the character can use the profession fully.
