The Most Useful Accessories for Your New Android Tablet

By Fausto Mendez

You swooped your next fave gadget, a glossy tablet with Android. 4.0 (or 5.0?) with which you'll use to game, read stuff, watch videos, and type the evening away. Of course, your problem now isn't how you'll use it. You almost certainly have a brilliant idea, but often it's hard to know what you'll use it with. A new device means a completely new arena of accessories are a wallet's opening away from becoming a part of your life. The following list should help you reduce down your options as you search for the ideal accessories to enrich your Android tablet.

1. An HDMI/video-out dongle can make your Android tablet itself an accessory to your television. In a similar fashion, Samsung "smart" TVs and Google TV set-top boxes can project video onto your HDTV wirelessly. Whether you just need to share a fast YouTube video with your guests or whether you utilize your Android tablet as your first media-consumption device, you'll love sharing your HDTV's display with Android.

2. Android gaming is relatively feeble compared with iOS gaming, but that does not suggest you can't have a stellar gaming experience on your Android tablet. OnLive, a gaming service that hosts gaming "consoles" at a remote location, streams the game video to your (Android or iOS) tablet, (Mac or Windows) PC or OnLive's own set-top box. It's like watching Netflix on-demand video but for games, and you may even buy the company's own X-Box-like, Bluetooth controller that works with your tablet if you don't like touchscreen controls.

3. Buy a 4G LTE personal hotspot if you're not home most of the time. Costs for the info plan are similar to the rates you'd pay for Android tablets, but a 4G LTE hotspot allows you to share your stunningly fast information connection with a couple of other devices,eg a portable or your 4. We can't recommend a particular brand in this case because the most competitive prices and service will vary greatly from area to region, carrier to carrier. This is not a vital device, but it is one of the handiest, especially for users that spend lots of time out of the house or that rely on public transport.

4. Get a pleasant case. Seriously, don't scrimp on this. A respectable case can easily save your Android from a table-height fall. It's hard to suggest the "best" case for your tablet because there are many 5 tablets on the market, but we suggest selecting an established brand. Those firms often have the wherewithal to thoroughly test assorted materials and designs for the best protection, look, feel and fit. Cases from less-reputable brands are sometimes inexpensive shells for cosmetic, not protective, purposes.

5. A keyboard dock can make your null experience much more like a laptop experience. At least, you won't have to waste your display's real-estate with the virtual keyboard, and it's often possible to detach it if you need to go into ultra-mobile mode. Some cases include a keyboard, so that is an option too. Both Logitech and Belkin make some great keyboards for tablets.
