By Nia Lawrence

With the rising popularity of the internet, more and more people now go online every single day. They have somehow developed the habit of downloading almost everything - music, video, photos, application and software. This, however, is not true to all. There is still a large number of the population that is reluctant to download files because of their fear of viruses. The rapid proliferation of internet viruses, Trojans, and malwares has become a source of worry for many. But that is not a helpless case, because one can now securely download anything with the use of antivirus programs. However, you need not just rely on these programs for security.

You have to look at the file that you want to download. Is it a free download GOM player setup? Or does it have something to do with pornography? Pornographic materials are known to be carriers of viruses that can seriously damage your computer. Assessment is your first key. Then, you need to look at the reputation of the website where you are downloading the file from. If the site is legitimate, then you will not most likely get a Trojan or a malware a long with your download.

Another thing that you should look at is if there are individuals who have actually downloaded the file. Check if there's an available forum or thread of conversation right below the link. Look for that specific post that will give you a hint that the file is safe to download. You can also join in many forums on the web and raise your concern. In this way, you can make sure that you can download the file without causing harm to your computer.

Another important thing that you should do is to scan the file that you want to download. You have to make use of the most updated antivirus software to make sure that it can block all viruses. Avira, Avast and Norton are among the antivirus products that you have to install on your computer. Aside from that, you should check the file. If it's too small, it's probably junk.

Get as much information as you can about the material that you want to download. For instance, if you want to get internet download manager Google Chrome, you have to make a thorough research about it on the web. Of course, if, after checking everything, the file still seems to be a threat, you can opt not to download it anymore.
