Using E-Mail To Build A Client Network

By Troy Jones

Business today have much to gain from e-mail marketing.

For example, you can have a newsletter to develop interest in your company while showing your expertise and assets. Sending an e-mail newsletter keeps your company in the mind of your growing network. Plus, good e-mail newsletters are frequently forwarded to friends of the recipient, thereby growing your network even further.

So how do you start this?

First of all, know what your audience are interested in. Listen. What do customers ask you when you tell them about your business? The same question can be asked by 10 different customers.

Notice what your customers really read. E-mail marketing is great because you can keep track of everything. And soon you will know which of your articles are read by customers.

Also make it easy for readers to give their feedback so you can learn more.

Give away a little bit of free advice to help your readers. This is to give them something to think about. You don't need to be the world's expert on a topic. You should just be your customer's expert. Give them something that could be helpful to them.

Each of your newsletters should have short features or some quick information. They can also be used to make your readers want to see other articles that you were planning on featuring. So you should keep a file of article ideas.

Organize your contact database and get permission to add contacts to your mailing list. Then begin collecting new contacts with permission. No one likes to be added to a mailing list without his or her knowledge, so tell people you plan to add them to your e-mail newsletter list and let them know they can unsubscribe at any time.

Next, you should look for a marketing service that will fit your business. A good e-mail marketing service will provide list management services (opt in, unsubscribe, dedupe, etc.), newsletter templates (HTML formatting, table of contents and more) and mailing, delivery and reporting functions.

The right service for you will be easy to use and will enable you to save money and give a professional impression to your readers.

You gain time and money with e-mail newsletters.

You can start with quarterly newsletters and maybe monthly ones later on. Once you're in a rhythm, your e-newsletters will practically write themselves.
