How To Select The Best Affiliate Program

By Yolanda Reyes

Affiliate programs come in a great number. Selecting the best affiliate program to promote is not an easy task. If you start promoting the wrong affiliate programs, you can waste a lot of time, money and effort. Here are some things to consider when choosing an affiliate program.

The Demand

Is this product in great demand? Do many people want this product? What types of individuals would want the product? Do you have an idea on how to get those people to visit the web page?

Conversion

Do you think the sales page of the product will convert many visitors into buyers? Is the product and the offer attractive enough? Is the website easy to use? Is placing an order easy to do?

You should trust your instincts when you look at the sales page. If you aren't convinced by it, then it probably won't work on many people, too.

Your Commission

Is the commission a good deal? Digital products (such as e-books) usually offer huge commissions (50% and up). You'll only get about 10% or less of commission with physical products. You should compare the commission rate with similar products of different affiliate programs.

In addition to the commission rate, pay attention to the dollar amount that you'll get per sale. If you get 10% commission on a product worth $100, you'll get $10, whereas a 50% commission on a $4 product is only $2.

If the product is too cheap, you'll need to sell a huge number of units in order to make any significant money. A few expensive items are easier to sell than a lot of cheap items. Look for a product that has just the right price.

Good Quality

Do you believe in the product yourself? Would you readily promote it?

No matter how "hot" and lucrative the product is, if you have any reservations about the product quality, its purpose or its industry, then don't promote it. Your online reputation should be protected. Doing something that you doubt will not work out well.

Track The Progress

You should keep track of all your efforts. Track the number of visitors you send to each affiliate program and the number of sales that you make. When the time comes when you can compare how much you make, discontinue those programs that aren't profitable.
