Best Kids Apps To Combine Education And Fun

By Bernard Miner

All the best kids apps use games and other fun activities children enjoy as tools to impart some learning. The thing that makes it so ideal is that children love playing around with these gadgets and know more about the functions than even the parents. Unfortunately, a lot of parents still won't or can't give their child a personal smart phone or tablet with its own applications. They will never know how much it helps with a child's education and development.

That's OK if the parents can spend time with their children and they download the kind of applications that are made for children. Note that these are very much different from the normal functional ones that adults use. What children need are cartoons or animals.

In fact, the best kids apps will usually have cartoon animals. One such featured application in the iTunes store on Apple is about how Rocket learned to read. Rocket is a dog, and it is an extremely effective way to teach little children how to read while they are simply observing what the cartoon dog is doing.

Another favorite that all kids enjoy are games which can be played on the iPhone and/or iPad. An example would be the Math Bingo application featured in the educational math section of the iTunes store. This game motivates children to learn addition, subtraction, multiplication and division by offering five bingo bugs in a row if the user correctly solves math problems.

Another similar application is Monkey Math School Sunshine. It takes the child on a virtual holiday on the beach with a funny monkey and a tiny sea turtle. The user just has to follow along as the duo cavorts on the beach, and provide answers to math problems by sliding in the right number.

In fact, this monkey math game is virtually a day on the beach for children. The monkey and turtle are shown with a bucket and pail at the beach for digging up holes in the sand. There are many such categories of applications designed for educating children, focusing on various aspects from spelling to colors, handwriting, crafts, books and even social skills.

This last one might prove to be especially useful, since social skills are so important these days. One of the best kids apps is called "Tacky Goes to Camp". It shows a group of penguins heading out to camp. Preschoolers watching it will learn what the back-packs are for, and how camping involves making s'mores and singing around a camp-fire, among other things.
