IPhone Screen Protector Mirrors The iPhone 5

By Tyler Kennedy

A proposed iPhone screen protector for the iPhone 5 mirrors many early "released" case designs which proposed a significantly modified form factor for the upcoming gadget. There appears to be two different camps in terms of the upcoming iPhone's body. A few think that the brand new model will look practically similar to the iPhone 4, but will have some improvements, like a new antenna design in order to solve the dropped calls "Death Grip" problem. Some other improvements to the iPhone 4-looking model may be the inclusion of an A5 processor as well as an 8-megapixel camera. Then there's the 2nd group of people who think the iPhone 5 will have a completely redesigned body.

Although it could be an indication that Apple has something totally new in store for its next-gen iPhone hardware, case designs before have been hit or miss in terms of predicting what brand new Apple hardware will look like. There are rumors of the iPhone 5 reverting back to a similar design to the iPhone 3G that has a curved, ergonomic back. There's talk of a tapered design in which the bottom of the phone would be thinner than the top part, angling the gadget any time it sits on a flat surface. Reports of a 4.2-inch screen have also been debated, which left many of us thinking what would happen to the home button. It is rather unlikely that the home button will actually be taken out, and new pictures have sprang out that validate about the home screen.

Several case designs apparently leaked out of China support the latter rumor, a significantly improved design. A new screen protector was designed to fit the front of the gadget, likewise supports a changed iPhone 5. When compared to an iPhone 4, it suggests the new device will be even larger in height and width. It makes sense to a degree-i f Apple intends to flatten the device, it would surely want to raise the other dimensions to make sufficient room for a big battery.

These early cases are designed around the same leaked design document, the authenticity of which has not been verified. Also, early case designs have a spotty track record of accurately foreshadowing new Apple gadgets. For example, cases were made for a supposed iPhone "nano" which still has yet to materialize. And early cases for the third-gen iPod touch suggested it would have a rear-facing camera, but that didn't happen till the 4th-gen device was released. On the other hand, early cases did reveal the design of the iPhone 3G and that the 6th-generation iPod nano would get a camera.

What small evidence you will find so far leads us to think the iPhone 5 is going to be more conservative update on the outside due to the leaked iPhone screen protector. There is still a chance that a revised iPhone 4 will become an entry-level model and this other purported design will serve as a high end new model, but are you ready to make bets depending on a case or screen protector?
