A Neutral Review of the Apple iPad 2

By Leah Miles

The Apple iPad 2 is the latest version of the groundbreaking tablet device launched by Apple a couple of years ago. Although the iPad was very popular and well received, there were also criticisms, and Apple is hoping that the new version will address these issues. Keep reading to learn a few things about the iPad 2 so that you can figure out whether or not you'd like to buy it.

Video chatting with FaceTime is one feature that the iPad 2 allows that you cannot do on the original iPad. This particular feature is insanely popular because it lets you see your fellow conversationalist in real time. The iPad 2 is equipped with two HD cameras--one on front and one on back--the front sends your image to the person you're talking to and the one on the back can send pictures of your surroundings if you want to send them. The photo booth app for iPad is great for taking snapshots of yourself or your friends. Don't buy the iPad just for this feature though because it is also available on the iPhone and on Mac computers.

The Multi-Touch technology used on the iPad is really what sets it apart from other devices. This technology was introduced through the first iPad and once you've gotten used to it, you can quickly and easily do all sorts of things using just your fingers. You, though, might find it easier to use the iPad after you've purchased an iPad specific stylus. Even though the iPad isn't capable of doing things that your computer or smart phone cannot do, plenty of users quite like the convenience of the Multi Touch and think that it is easier to use and a lot more intuitive than your usual mouse or touch pad.

If you have been thinking about buying an Apple iPad 2, you should think of it as a luxury item and not a necessity. There isn't anything at all wrong with buying something because you find it fun or cool; just make sure you don't expect it to replace your notebook computer because it isn't cut out for that. Most smartphones available these days can do almost everything an iPad can do so you don't need to purchase it for its unique capabilities. At the same time, it's generally more pleasurable to browse the web or watch videos on the iPad's high resolution screen than on the much smaller one on your phone. Similarly, the Multi-Touch on your iPad is a lot more fun to play with and use than the regular touchpad you'll find on a laptop or notebook computer.

The Apple iPad 2 is a fabulous gadget that has lots of appeal and it's easy to want one when you see someone else using it or see an ad for it on television. Still, it's not that hard to go on living without it, particularly when you own your own notebook computer and smart phone. Whether the Apple iPad 2 is a worthwhile investment depends on how much you value its sleek design and the many entertaining and convenient features it offers.
