The Latest Processor to Build a Gaming PC

By Joseph Robertson

Everybody in the pc gaming world who loves to build computers always has their eye on the latest processor. The latest processor to be released was Intel's Sandy Bridge E series processors - they were released in early Nov of 2011. The Sandy Bridge E processors represent the culmination of the Sandy Bridge line of processors, and are the costliest and dynamic processors available to the consumer.

The Sandy Bridge line a processors provided a CPU that had intensive power, but also integrated graphics control. This allowed for much quicker performance in 3D graphics as the on board CPU controller provided a closer info processing for the CPU. The closer something is to the CPU the speedier the info is processed. So Sandy Bridge CPUs proved to be much better for P.C gaming than anything. Even the lower level CPUs outpaced the top end AMD processors.

Now we have Intel's latest processor, the Sandy Bridge E. The Sandy Bridge E took the very best of everything in the Sandy Bridge Line and wrapped it up into one enormous processor. Physically it is actually much bigger than the standard Sandy Bridge Processors. There are 2 main reasons for this. First, the top end Sandy Bridge E now available is a 6 core processor. Second, the Sandy Bridge E offers a particularly large L3 cache. The top end Sandy Bridge E offers a 15 MB L3 cache, while the subsequent one down offers a 12 MB. Cache is one of those elements of a CPU that is regularly ignored, but having a larger cache like that helps in improving performance massively.

Included in the release of the latest processor, Intel also released the chipset platform to support it. The X79 chipset turns out to be quite an overwhelming act of engineering. As well as supporting the supreme Sandy Bridge E, the x79 chipset also boasts quad channel memory and 40 lanes of PCIe 3.0. This indicates that the performance increase from utilizing Sandy Bridge E isn't just in the processor itself, but much larger memory and pcie bandwidth capability.

All in all, the latest processor by Intel has proved to be a tour de force. No other consumer processor out there can match it's performance, and Intel's next processor potentially will not even touch it. All of this performance comes at a large price but for those people who wish to have the ultimate gaming machine, there is no better choice.
