Keep These In Mind: The Effective Means To Communicate With Fans On Social Media

By Kurt Spencer

In our past issue, you learned the way to use Groups on Facebook for your business. Today, we will be talking about the right ways to connect with people on Facebook.

Although people are more or less aware of what correct Netiquette in social media management, the creation and development of Facebook has taken web interaction to a whole new level.

When it comes to Facebook marketing, there are a number of things you have to take into account when addressing people. Each application should be diligently analyzed. Whether you use your Facebook account for personal or professional reasons, one should always remember that the internet shapes society. For some, Facebook and other social networks is even the basis of making or breaking relationships from employees ranting about their bosses online to wives finding out about her husband's affair.

Here are a few things to consider when dealing with people online through Facebook, more so if you're using it professionally.

Know What's Private And Keep It That Way

Redundant as it may sound, this is the principal rule many people forget. The connection and sense of voyeurism Facebook gives is a tempting entity but you should remember these things have a habit to backfire you and your business. Do you really want your clients see you puking on your Friday night gimmicks? Or is that nasty remark that's supposed to be an inside joke among your buds worth the false impression by your business contacts? Realize that whatever that's learned about you online can have a long-term impact. Personal or professional contacts may stumble on these in the future. If you openly let others know about private things in your life, imagine the shame and even discredit that you could earn.

When Using Facebook for Business, Stop Publishing those Game Updates

Those game updates will make you look incompetent towards potential customers. If you still enjoy these games however, it would be best if you not have the updates posted on your wall. Posting the game updates may not be a big deal for you and your 'Farmville' neighbors. But for your potential customers, these may label you as unprofessional or even irresponsible. You don't want this for your reputation, do you?

Avoid Posting Updates As If You're Texting Them

?Hd a frikng gud tym at d prty lst nyt? just doesn't sound well online. You're not posting updates on Twitter which is limited to only 150 words so why scrimp your words? The same goes for drunk posting, posting gibberish or something too vague. In fact, stop posting just for the sake of posting. Although everyone is entitled to their own bit of cyberspace, these things have a tendency to get one other people's nerves in the long run. Annoyance is not the sentiment you want to conjure up in people.

- Choose Contacts Wisely

Don't forget that all your posts will appear on their news feeds. Even their Facebook friends will have the chance to view those posts. So it would be best if you only choose contacts that are specific. Choose direct contacts if possible. Keep in mind that you only have 5000 limit for contacts so choose wisely. If you're keeping a Facebook page for professional reasons, then do not accept friend requests right away. It would be best if you evaluate them first. You can un-friend some people later on after finding out that they aren't within your target audience.
