Choosing Safe Freware

By Randy Keenean

Freeware is free software that you can download for free. The term Freeware means free software. Freeware is straightforward to download, can be accessed as many times as you wish over limitless timeframe, without the need for a license.

There is a huge range of Freeware available. Freeware is a fabulous resource for online users. A lot of people worry about the risk of viruses and this puts them off downloading Freeware. This concern is valid because it is true that whilst much of the freeware available is completely safe, some freeware can contain threats, viruses and other malicious software.

It is essential to take sensible steps to keep your computer protected. If you are not sure, it would be a good idea to stick with big freeware sites. Reputable websites will vet their programs through testing and checking them out for users, before sharing them.

Not all of the Freeware sites do this mind you, as many are much more interested in quantity not quality. Some are happy to list just about anything in order to brag a large selection. This means that size is not a guarantee of safety.

When you consider the fact that a Google search for Freeware returns more than 150 million pages of results, it is easy to see why finding the best Freeware can be daunting. A reliable way to research and find trustworthy sites is to look in forums. You can save yourself a huge amount of time by learning through other users experiences. A useful place to do some research is in large directories which allow individuals to leave feedback on software. This is usually very informative.

Some of the Freeware programs are free because quite frankly they are completely diabolical and nobody would ever dream of actually paying to use them. Other programs are useful but most people would not pay to use them.

Then there are brilliant programs vailable that you are shocked are free. It is hard for most people to understand what would make anyone to put time and energy into their work only to release it free of charge. Most programmers hope that they will get credit later on for creating somethin useful. Programmers will also happily accept donations for their work but it is not expected. It is always free. Donations are totally voluntary.

People often confuse Freeware with Shareware. But they are completely different. Shareware may only be used free for a trial period, after this you are required to pay.
