Games And Emulators For The 3DS On Your R4 DS or R4 3DS Card

By Simona Silva

Every now and again a few home brew games and applications are released that just make me go WOW! Remarkable as that may be, considering free games are, well, free. Here are just 2 different freeware programs for the Nintendo 3DS that happen to work on the DS, DSi and DSi XL as well. The first one will be the emulator that will let you play old classic games - thousands of them - and the other will be a newly released home brew game. In reality, emulators of any type have always been my favorite type of app. Allowing you to play thousands of free older games that were made for classic systems. And as I mentioned, there are thousands of them available, a lot of really great classic games that you can see in their modern form on today's consoles.

If you're in the USA, you may never have even heard of the MSX or MSX+ computers. This computer was a much bigger hit in Japan and other parts of Asia, as well as Europe, and huge in Eastern Europe. No matter which brand (manufacturer model) you bought, the games you went out to spend your money on were universal and would work on any of the systems. These computers are so popular that finding one is an adventure in itself. Even eBay rarely gets them. However, if you have an R4 3DS card, you won`t have to go hunting. You just need to download the MSX emulator called msxDS v0.91 and have access to all of the MSX games you could ever want. If you don't have favorites, because you didn't have an MSX, that's okay too.

There are some standards which I think everyone should try. Some of the greats include games like Conta, Metal Gear Solud 2, Puzzle Bobble, The Castle, Bomberman and many others. I bet you can see a little pattern starting in the game list. A lot of those games are games that are the biggest hits of today - and they all started out on the MSX. Pretty impressive for a computer for the 1980's that many haven't even hear of.

Alright folks, this next one is an actual game, and not an emulator at all. Got your R4 DS or R4 3DS All Ready for you to go? Fantastic, lets go! This game is Retro Wars DS - And it is the best of the best when it comes to retro shooters. It's a cool retro shooter that was developed completely using open source and free tools. Absolutely all of this game was made using free tools for every aspect of the game - nothing commercial, so it is absolutely free. It's truly amazing what cane be done with just free tools.

If you love blowing up nasty aliens as much as I do, then you'll want this game for all of the retro and cool gaming action that can only be had from games like Retro Wars DS. The sound effects and graphics in this game are better than any I have ever played. The big appeal of freeware games of course is that you can download and play them for free. Absolutely no money needs to be spent. Just download the game, and copy over the retrowards.nds file, and then copy the game to your r3 ds or even the r4 3ds card and you are set to go.
