The Proper Use Of Toner Refill

By Noreen Hamms

It is still being questioned whether toner refill is the cost saving feature it is advertised to be. Some consumers feel the refilled cartridge does not last as long. They feel the claim of it being a cost saving feature is just a ploy being used to get more of their product being sold.

Toners come in powder form rather than wet ink. This allows for a quality of high resolution in your prints. To save money, people their toner cartridges in to be refilled. Others learn to do it themselves, which is even more cost saving. The thing you must be sure of is that the filler kit is compatible with the cartridges your printer uses.

First, refilling cartridges is capable of resulting in health problems. The powder can be released into the air, where it can be inhaled into the lungs. It is strongly advised that protection in the form of a mask and gloves be used.

Second, the steps involved in the process need to be followed to the letter. If the steps are not performed properly, the cartridge will not work properly when placed back into the printer. A test and alignment page should always be done. This is the only way of finding out if your cartridge is working properly.

If the instructions seem to be confusing, or the health concerns bother you, return to the store and let a trained staff member take care of the cartridge for you. There is still a savings to be had. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing the job was done properly.

The controversy comes in using the cartridges. Many say a refilled cartridge lasts for a shorter time negating any savings you have made. Every printer is different. The only way to settle this argument is to keep track of the copies you get from a new cartridge based on a refilled one.
